Sesa FA hold Churchill Brothers

Churchill Brothers SC v Sesa Football Academy

Churchill Brothers SC and Sesa Football Academy played out a high scoring 3-3 draw in the 5th Round of the Goa Pro League at the Duler Stadium, Mapusa on Sunday.

Churchill Brothers were missing key players like Henri Antchouet, Ravanan D., Raju Yumnam through injury and Micky Fernandes due to a suspension.

What was looking as a slow paced build up to the game, suddenly picked up speed in the 7th Minute when Bineesh Balan scuffed his long ranger.Then in the 14th minute Jaison Vales gave the Red Machines the lead when he rounded up the Sesa Football Academy, goalkeeper and placed the ball into the net from an acute angle towards the left. Alesh Sawant who was looking sharp on the left wing had played the through ball.

Sesa FA were not taken aback by the Churchill Brothers lead and in the 22nd minutes they came close to scoring but Olvin Cardozo shot from the left went wide. 24th minutes into the match, saw Sesa coming even closer when their forward Sahil Tavora’s shot was just parried away by the Churchill Brothers goalkeeper Arindam Bhattacharya.

29th mins saw Sesa nearly scoring an own goal when Pontif Vaz played a back pass which the on rushing goalkeeper failed to read but the ball hit the side netting.

But on the 32nd mins Sesa found the equalizer through Chukwudi Chukwyma when he scored after dribbling past two defenders and his shot deflected off Churchill Brothers defender, Sanjay Balmuchu into the net. The half time score read 1-1.

Second half started on a quick note with both the teams playing attacking football. Arindam Bhattacharya then made a brilliant save to foil Chukwudi Chukwyma in the 53rd minute on a one on one situation. Then in the 54th minute Jaison Vales scored when he chested in an Anthony Barbosa cross.

Binnesh Balan won a penalty in the 62nd minute when he was brought down inside the box but his resulting spot kick was brilliantly saved by the Sesa goalkeeper, Thongchom Singh.

Sesa scored again in the 73rd minutewhen Yogesh Kadam headed home a cross from Parryson Rebello. Yogesh soared over 2 Churchill defenders and placed the ball into the net.

But Daniel scored off an indirect free kick to make it 3-2 in the 81st minute. The match also saw some tackles flying in with the players from both the teams playing an all-out game and looking for a victory. There were some heated arguments between them but it was cooled down by the referee who had to flash many yellow cards during the match.

When it looked like Churchill Brothers had sealed the match Chukwyma scored through a rebound in the 90th minute, after Arndiam had made a brilliant save.

The draw takes The Red Machines to 13 points from 5 matches.
