Mohammedan Sporting Club win the 126th Durand Cup 2013

Mohammedan Sporting Club have lifted the 126th Durand Cup 2013 with a 2-1 win against ONGC in the final played at the Ambedkar Stadium.

Antony Soren opened the score sheet with a goal in the 34th minute, when his shot went into the back of the net to the delight of Mohammedan Sporting coach Masood Abdul Aziz Bola.

Australian striker Tolgay Ozbey increased the lead with a fine strike just ten minutes later. Ozbey’s powerful shot left ONGC keeper Bilifang Narzary stranded and handed his side a comfortable 2-0 lead at half-time.

Lavino Fernandes managed to pull one back for ONGC in the 55th minute. But Mohammedan Sporting didn’t give away the match and they kept the lead untill the final whistle was blown.

Mohammedan Sporting won the Durand Cup for the second time in their history and 73 years after being the first Indian team to win the Durand Cup in 1940. The Kolkatan’s defeated the Warwickshire Regiment in the Durand Cup 1940.

The Durand Cup is India’s oldest and the world’s third oldest football tournament.
