Churchill host Dempo in Goan Derby

I-League: Dempo SC v Churchill Brothers SC

I-League: Dempo SC v Churchill Brothers SC

Dempo SC will travel to Margao to face Churchill Brothers SC in an away match of the Airtel I-League at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on March 28.

Dempo SC, fresh from a win against Mohammedan SC, are in a fine form after the resumption of the I-League and are looking to finish strongly for the remaining four rounds of the I-League. Coach Arthur Papas managed to rectify their shortcomings in the previous leg and have made some astute signings in order to help the club finish the I-League in a positive manner. “It has been a positive second phase for the team and we understand we need to continue to work hard to keep improving, if we can retain our best team on the park then we can be optimistic about the performances,” said Arthur Papas.

Dempo has won four out of their last five matches in the I-League with their latest win being against Mohammedan Sporting in which Tolgay Ozbey had scored the winning goal. Tolgay has scored eight goals for the Golden Eagles in 2014 which includes four goals from the Federation Cup. “The boys have shown great desire in the second half of the I-League and the group is ambitious to continue this way” said Arthur Papas.

Playing with the youngest average age squad in the league, the coach is satisfied with his boys. “Personally I am pleased with the majority of the team’s performance in the second phase, we would like to continue with the momentum, keep improving our style of play which when effective has shown its capabilities.” admitted Papas.

Dempo squad to its credit has managed this turn in fortunes without once having a full compliment of players available, once again the squad depth will be tested for the match against Churchill Brothers.

The Red Machines on the other hand would be desperate for three points to stay clear off the bottom. Currently they are second from bottom ahead of Mohammedan Sporting but still not safe from facing the drop.

The kick-off is slated for 18.00 IST and will be live on Ten Action.
