Chennaiyin FC player-cum-coach Marco Materazzi was a happy man after his team defeated Kerala Blasters FC in the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) Southern Derby yesterday.

Chennaiyin FC won the match 2-1 courtesy to a penalty by Elano and a spectacular bicycle kick by Frenchman Bernard Mendy.

“It was one of the best goals I have seen not only in the ISL but overall as well,” the Italian World Cup winner commented on Mendy’s goal during the post-match press conference.

Materazzi also felt that the Chennai crowd was instrumental in securing three points in Chennaiyin FC’s first home game of the inaugural ISL season. “I think their support helped us a lot and we also gave them reason to cheer.”

Asked about the changes made due to the injury to youngster Abhishek Das, Materazzi said, “It wasn’t easy for us as we had to change the tactics and system but my players did a great job and we got three points.”

“On having to change positions during the game I have to do a job for my team no matter where I play,” former Brazilian international Elano added to the statement made by coach. “It is important to help out the team at every opportunity.”

“Yes, it was quite physical but I am used to it and thanks to God I have the skills and experience to deal with it,” he added.
