Sporting Clube de Goa was held to a goalless draw by Churchill Brothers SC in the GFA Goa Pro League at Duler Stadium, Mapusa on Saturday.

Sporting Goa handed new signing Glenton Wolfe a debut at the heart of the defence. Glenton along with Brother Anthony Wolfe played for Churchill last season and both put up a stellar performance against their former employees.

Churchill created chances to score, but for the most part defended tightly by putting large numbers of bodies behind the ball.

Sporting Goa were severely hindered early on when Joyner Lourenco dislocated his shoulder, but managed to soldier on after receiving treatment on the sidelines.

Churchill had the best chance of the first half, when Sunday Nwadialu stinging drive flew just past the post.

After resumption, Sporting Goa came out all guns blazing with Victorino Fernandes, Anthony Wolfe and Mauvin Borges coming close to scoring, only to be stopped by the robust defending of Churchill.

In the closing stages, Sporting Goa had the chance to steal victory when Royston D’Souza rolled the ball goal across the danger area, but Cajetan Fernandes’ shot flew over the bar.
