GFA U-16 1st Division: Sporting Clube de Goa v Dempo SC

Sporting Clube de Goa started their campaign on a winning note by overpowering Dempo SC 1-0 in a GFA U-16 1st Division league match at Duler Stadium, Mapusa on Thursday. Sporting Goa led 1-0 at the lemon break.

Sporting Goa took the lead early on when a diagonal ball was swept from the left side to pick out Dwayne Britto and he took the ball in his stride, before dispatching it past the helpless Dempo custodian.

After resumption, Sporting Goa had the opportunity to double the lead when Nitani Korane was played through on goal, but the Dempo goalkeeper did well to spread himself and deflect the ball away from the target.

Dempo came close to scoring when Wilbur Lobo went for a fifty-fifty ball with the Sporting Goa goalkeeper, but both collided with each other and the ball was cleared away to safety.

Moments later Dempo’s Wilbur headed the ball goal bound from a corner kick but it flew just wide of the post.

At the other end, Stendly Fernandes hoisted in a swinging flag kick for the Flaming Oranje, but Maxwell Fernandes’ header was cleared of the goal line.
