Chennaiyin FC will be eager to cement their place at the top of the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) table when they take on Mumbai City FC in an away game at the D.Y. Patil Stadium on Sunday.

“We know Mumbai are a very good side, in fact I said earlier that they have the best team in the ISL,” Chennaiyin FC player-cum-coach Marco Materazzi told at the pre-match press conference on Saturday. “But we are not the worst so we will give them a good game again.”

Chennaiyin will miss the services of Brazilian star Elano, striker John Stiven Mendoza Valencia and Indian international defender Gouramangi Moirangthem Singh due to injuries.

“Elano, Mendoza and Gouramangi are definitely ruled out of tomorrow’s game. But only God knows for how long they will be out for,” Materazzi said.

“We will miss the injured trio but the other players in the squad deserve respect as they have stepped up in the past and ready to deliver again if needed.”

“As I said after the last game, we may or may not reach the semis but we are a team,” the former Italian international stated.

Chennaiyin FC forward Jayesh Rane is well aware of the qualities of Mumbai City FC. “They are a very good side so we will give them respect but at the same time try to maintain our good position in the table,” the youngster made clear.

The match will be a special one for Rane as the youngster hails from Mumbai. “Yes, it’s great to be playing in Mumbai and I am expecting a great atmosphere tomorrow but all I want is three points for Chennaiyin FC.”

The Mumbai City FC v Chennaiyin FC match will kick-off at 19.00 IST.
