Nigerian center back Chika Wali recently signed for Mumbai FC. The 26 year old becomes the third foreign player after Japan’s Taisuke Matsugae and Brazil’s Josimar da Silva to have put pen to paper to play for Mumbai FC.

Mumbai FC head coach Khalid Jamil was very happy to have added the Nigerian to his squad. “He is a very important signing for us. Chika is a player with the character and dedication to do extremely well. He brings his powerful physique and athleticism to the game and is very strong in the air – a must for a central defender.”

Chika Wali has made over 100 appearances in the past seven years in the I-League. His previous clubs include two stints at Pune FC, Chirag United and Salgaocar FC.

On completing his signing Wali said, “I am excited to play for Mumbai FC. I have heard a lot about the city and I know that the city is very passionate about football.”

He added, “The coach is building a very good squad. Also, I am aware that the club will be playing at it’s home ground after a four-year hiatus which will really have a positive impact on our performances. It is a great opportunity and I’m looking forward to having a fantastic season here.”
