Mohammedan Sporting Club beat East Bengal Club 1-0 in the “Play for Cancer” charity football match organised by the Howrah Yuba Forum to help 4-year-old cancer patient Joydeep Koruli on Wednesday.

Bijay Mandi’s first half goal proved to be enough for the Black Panthers to register a win in the match, which was played in a festive atmosphere at the Sailen Manna Stadium in Howrah where Mohammedan Sporting President Sultan Ahmed and Football Secretary Iqbal Ahmed were present beside Tollywood actors Ankush and Mimi Chakraborty, Atlético de Kolkata footballers Syed Rahim Nabi, Nallappan Mohanraj and Ofentse Nato with other celebrities like singer Jojo and former Indian national team footballer Dipendu Biswas.

“It feels great to be part of such noble cause, on behalf of the entire team I wish Joydeep a very bright future and good health. I took this match as a opportunity to test the team’s bench strengh before our next Second Division League game, and the way the boys played on the field shows the depth of our team and also increased the options for us,” said Mohammedan Sporting coach Subrata Bhattacharya Jr.

Meanwhile, before the kick-off an amount of Rs. 2 lakhs were handed over to Joydeep’s parents.
