The accolades don’t seem to stop for Bengaluru FC midfielder Eugeneson Lyngdoh who was, on Sunday, named the All India Football Federation’s Player of the Year 2015. Having capped off a stellar season with the Blues, claiming 16 assists and 8 goals on the way to being named the I-League’s midfielder of the season, Lyngdoh adds this to his already overflowing cabinet of awards.

“I’m very thrilled and excited to be named AIFF’s Player of the Year. I really don’t know what to say. I thank God for this moment as it means a lot to be recognized by the coaches and the AIFF. It motivates me to work harder,” said Lyngdoh.

Lyngdoh, who joined the Blues from Rangdajied United in the summer of 2014, was named the Players’ Player of the Year and the Fans’ Player of the Year at the club’s annual awards night in June 2015 and says his move to Bengaluru FC has been one of the best decisions he has made.

“Joining Bengaluru FC has been an important move for me and I have gained a lot as a player and as a person at this club. I have tremendously developed myself since coming here and I must thank the coaching staff; Ashley (Westwood), Pradhyum (Reddy), Malcolm (Purchase) and Ali (Uzunhasanoglu), for their continuous efforts and for doing their best on the pitch every day. I would also like to thank my teammates for pushing me further every time and making me a better player,” Lyndgoh added.

Lyngdoh earned a call up to the Indian National Football Team in March and has been a regular in the starting line-up, going on to be named the Football Players’ Association of India’s Player of the Year 2014-15. Asked about how it seems everything is going his way, the 29-year-old says motivation and hard work are key.

“I’ve been greatly motivated by the people I share the pitch with. My teammates and coaches motivate me a lot and I’ve come to believe that hard work pays off. This award means a lot to me and I’m looking forward to another season with Bengaluru FC,” Lyngdoh said.

Westwood was full of praise for Lyngdoh, going on to add that this award could serve as an example to all aspiring footballers in the country.

“I’m very pleased to have heard the news of Eugene being named AIFF’s Player of the Year and I’m proud of him as he thoroughly deserves it. This award is about no one else but him and it shows all Indian footballers out there what can be achieved with hard work and a humble attitude. I’m sure that once Eugene is rested in the next couple of weeks he will go from strength to strength to have another good year in Indian football,” said the gaffer.
