India U-17 team holds Stabæk Fotball to a 2-2 stalemate

India U-17 national football team

The India U-17 World Cup squad drew 2-2 against Norway’s Stabæk Fotball U-16 in Norway on June 21, 2016.

The Indian colts fostered an early goal scoring opportunity in the 16th minute when Komal tried to capitalize on a Boris cross from the right flank. Komal however failed to test the opposition custodian as his shot flew whiskers wide of the goal.

Right before the half-time whistle, India were handed with a golden opportunity to take the lead but Abhijit Sarkar failed to make the most out of a one versus one scenario with the opposition goalkeeper, after latching onto a Komal through ball, as the half-time scoreline read 0-0.

The Indian team took the lead in the 53rd minute when Amarjit Singh converted from the spot after Abhijit was brought down inside the box. The Indian lead however was short-lived as Stabæk equalized two minutes later to restore parity to the scoreline.

In the 81st minute the Norwegian club took the lead as they converted from the penalty spot after Nawaz brought down an opponent inside India’s 18 yard box, to make the scoreline read 2-1.

Shortly after the Indian colts equalized their deficit as Boris latched onto an Aniket cross and tapped the ball home to make the scoreline read 2-2. The full-time scoreline read the same as both teams failed to score the decisive goal in the remaining time.
