India U-16 boys win 5-0 away to Sportfreunde Siegen U-17s in Germany

The 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup bound India U-16 national team boys, who are currently on a training camp in Germany, Saturday, July 30 faced the Under-17s boys of Regionalliga-West side Sportfreunde Siegen at their artificial turf ground next to the Leimbachstadion and scored a convincing 5-0 victory against the boys who play in the second tier U-17 Westfalenliga.

But at the start the India boys looked to have problems with the playing surface and SF Siegen put some pressure on them for about 10 minutes, but after that the colts got hold of the surface and thereafter took control of the match.

It wasn’t surprising that in the 14th minute India took the lead as striker Komal Thatal created some space for himself, the Siegen defence tried to stop him but Komal kept the ball, then placed it on the inside of the post and it finally went in.

Siegen seemed unclear what hit them as India broke through especially on their right flank with Boris Singh and Sanjeev Stalin often a problem for the Siegen defenders but their final pass often lacked precision. The second game came in the 28th minute when an alert Aman Chetri beat the defence and keeper Lars Boller to score.

It remained 2-0 at the break for India though they could have scored more before the break.

The second session started similar to the first with Siegen making numerous substitutions and it seemed to work for them as especially Berkan Koc on the right created problems for Gaston D’Silva with his speed and trickery, but Siegen didn’t really bother substitute keeper Tamal Naskar in the India goal until the 70th minute when a penalty was given for Siegen for a clumsy foul of the attacker. But the resultant penalty was blasted over to the joy of the India boys as they now once more picked up pace in their game.

First it was Komal who made it 3-0 off a long defence splitting pass, then substitute Narender back headed the ball into the net off a Komal corner for the fourth and the final goal came just two minutes from time as Mohamad Rakip sealed a memorable 5-0 victory for the India Under-16 boys over the SF Siegen U-17s.
