Anglo Urdu Boys H.S. made a memorable debut by qualifying for the knockouts stage of the Bajaj Allianz-Aspire India School 5s Under-12 Invitational Football Tournament, at the Freekick Turfs, Mundhwa on Thursday.

Clubbed in a group of debutants, Anglo Boys Urdu HS’s two-match Group M5 campaign saw them score a phenomenal eight goals, with Sumit Rai accounting for four.

Anglo Urdu Boys began trouncing Katariya H.S 4-0, which saw Sumit score three and then down St. Patrick’s H.S 4-1. In the last match St. Patrick’s HS downed Katariya 2-0.

In the two other groups, Hill Green H.S qualified from Group M5 after both their opponents SNBP, Yerawada and Podar International, Wagholi failed to turn up after confirming their entries.

Late in the day, Sant Gadge Maharaj Vidyalaya proved a tad too tough for Vibgyor High, Magarpatta and won 8-0 to make it through to the last 16. The highlight of the game was the stoic defending by Vibgyor goalkeeper Ishayu Nath, who braved it all till the end.

The action now shifts back to Freekick, Baner with all group matches at the Mundhwa venue having been completed.

Friday’s matches will determine the topper from four groups and also the four best second placed teams.
