The sixth edition of the Mizoram Premier League (MPL), the top flight in local Mizo football, will be played from August 31 onwards.

The MPL Board and representatives of all the participating eight MPL clubs had a meeting today at the Tourist Lodge, Chaltlang regarding the upcoming season.

MPL six will have eight teams as in recent seasons with the teams facing each other twice in the course of the league with the top four teams earning a place in the semifinals.

The semifinals will be a double-leg tie.

As it was done last season, this season’s edition of the MPL will also have a round of matches played outside of Aizawl. Last year Champhai had hosted a round of MPL5 matches.

MPL6 Kickoff will be held on August 25. There will be a briefing for clubs and players about the programme.

Meanwhile the Under-18 teams of MPL clubs will start their league in the month of October. Players born after January 1, 1999 will be eligible to play in the tournament. Registration for this league will be held between September 1-15.

Teams will face each other once in the league with the top four earning a semifinal spot.
