Bobby Zamora to lead Camp at Kempinski-managed Yanqi Island

For parents wondering what it takes to make their kids’ football dreams come true and how they can set them on the right path, Yanqi Island, managed by Kempinski, might just have come up with the perfect way to kick things off.

From 2 to 5 October, the luxurious and spectacular hotel will be playing host to Bobby Zamora, who represented England and spent more than a decade of his career playing in the Premier League with prestigious clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United and Fulham.

Kids aged 5 to 18 years are invited to apply for a place on the camps, and they’ll enjoy four fun-packed, inspirational sessions personally led by Zamora, who will be supported by two professional UK coaches. Moreover, players and parents will also have the chance to meet Zamora and the coaches in a more casual setting, to engage with him and ask questions they might have on their minds.

It will be Zamora’s first visit to China/Beijing and he’s very excited at the prospect. “It’s always been a dream of mine to visit China, and if I can help some local kids on the way to achieving their football dreams at the same time, it’ll make the visit much more worthwhile and rewarding,” he said in an open message.

“I’m really looking forward to meeting and working with youngsters who live in Beijing or elsewhere in China, so be warned; I’ll probably have as many questions for you as you have for me,” he joked.

The camp is the brainchild of Brice Pean, General Manager of Yanqi Island, managed by Kempinski, who explained that “With the incredible scenery and facilities we have at our properties, we like to think that we offer something that’s beyond most five-star hotels and we want all customer experiences to reflect that too.”

“Most VIP personal appearances are short, media focussed affairs, but what we’re aiming to do is to offer the players and parents the opportunity to genuinely interact and connect with Bobby. If the kids can actually get to know him, then he really has the chance to inspire them, and hopefully a few of them will look back on the experience and remember that it encouraged them to pursue their football dreams.”

As one might expect, packages comprising the camp and a family stay at the hotel are on offer; however, for parents willing to make the journey to and from the venue each day, there are “Bobby Only” packages available too. At just 60 minutes from downtown Beijing, the return trip is about the same as watching a football match on TV, and with plenty more to do and see in the local vicinity, it’s sure to be more worthwhile.

And if that’s not enough to convince, then as a personal gesture of support, Zamora is offering some of his personal football memorabilia, including a shirt co-signed by good friend Rio Ferdinand, in a lucky draw available to all applicants who sign up before 20 September.
