Mohammedan Sporting Club U-13s put up a disciplined performance to score a convincing 2-0 win over United Sports Club in their Kolkata Zonal Round opener of the 2017/18 U-13 Youth League on Sunday at Kamalgazi Sports Complex in Kolkata.

Goals from skipper Suraj Buduk (18′) and defender Rajesh Singh (53′) helped the Young Panthers to go top of the table with three points.

Right from the start of the match, Mohammedan SC looked more confident on the ball as the passive United SC repeatedly lost possession in the midfield.

The Young Panthers created the first chance in the 9th minute, as striker Bijoy Mondal’s powerful strike produced a top save from United SC goalkeeper Abhay Chowdhary.

Mohammedan SC finally scored in the 18th minute when winger Bhuto Singh played a superb low cross into the path of Suraj at the far post, with the play-maker duly converting the opportunity.

United SC, meanwhile, gave a good account of themselves, but they couldn’t score of their chances as Mohammedan SC took the 1-0 lead into the break.

The Young Panthers kept pressing forward after the break and doubled their lead just eight minutes into the second session when Rajesh volleyed winger Tapan Soren’s cross into the roof of the net.

Mohammedan SC, thereafter, created numerous chances and the scoreline could have been more lopsided, if not for the acrobatics of United SC goalkeeper Abhay Chowdhary. It remained 2-0 for the Young Panthers until the final whistle.
