SAI defeat Meghalaya to win Sub-Junior National Football Championship

Sports Authortiy of India (SAI) were crowned Champions of the Sub-Junior National Football Championship 2017-18 at the JCT Sports Complex on Thursday after defeating Meghalaya on penalties, after regulation time could not separate the two sides as the full-time scoreline had read 1-1.

Meghalaya took the lead in the 23rd minute through Fairlystar Suting to lead 1-0 at half-time. Jangila Basumatary however scored for SAI in the 53rd minute to equalize proceedings as the full-time scoreline read 1-1 with both teams on equal footing.

Even added extra time could separate the two teams as a stalemate ensued and the scoreline after 120 minutes of play read 1-1. It came to penalties to decide the Champion of the Sub-Junior National Football Championship 2017-18 and SAI outscored Meghalaya three to win in the shootout to take home the trophy.
