Guardian Angel SC thumped Calangute Association 3-0 in a GFA Goa Professional League match played at Duler Stadium Mapusa on Thursday.

A brilliant second-half performance from the winners and a brace by super substitute Abel Hammod and a goal by Nicholas Rodrigues helped Guardian Angel SC walk home with all points.

The first ten minutes of the game saw Calangute Association charge towards the goal and create two chances in the initial session. First was when Dominic Fernandes whose shot ballooned over the target while next Joston Pereira’s low strike from the edge of the box went wide.

The first chance for the Guardian Angel team was created by Aniston Fernandes off a free kick but his potent shot was well cleared in time by the Calangute defense.

On the counter-attack, striker Omkar More had an impressive run from the left flank and he placed a perfect cross into the box to Josley Dias whose goal-bound header hit the crossbar denying them the team an early advantage in the 22nd minute.

Four minutes later they were denied again as an unmarked Josley’s header went inches away from the post.

The first half hour witnessed the coastal side dominating the proceedings as the Guardian Angel side, were made to drop low.

Jayganesh Goltekar of Calangute placed a perfect cross into Omkar but the latter failed to control it as the keeper saved the loose ball in the 39th minute.

On the other side, Dominic Fernandes crossed the ball into Omkar More two minutes later who headed it in the back of the nets but was in an offside position hence denying them yet another chance to open the days tally.

The Calangute keeper was finally tested in the additional time as midfielder Perryson Rebello received a shot-pass from the midfield area and struck straight on target but an alert keeper sent the goal-bound strike away to ensure both teams went into the half goalless.

Crossing over, Guardian Angel SC came out strong as they opened the scoring through Nicholas Rodrigues who placed his shot in the nets off Yakubu Mohammed’s curling cross in the 46th minute.

Motivated by the lead, Guardian Angel came close to adding another in the next minute as 18 low shot from inside the box went inches away from the post.

In the 57th minute, Guardian Angel SC doubled their leaded courtesy to super substitute Abel Hammod who headed his first touch of the game coming from the bench to give the away side a 2-0 lead.

Being two goals down the home team pressed hard as Dominic Fernandes’ shot from a free kick failed to find Kouame Joseph in the box in the 71st minute.

Calangute Association had a few chances in the last quarter of the game but they failed the finishing as they went on to concede another goal as Abel Hammod tapped the ball above the opposing defense from outside the 18 yard to leave the Calangute keeper blank in the 85th minute.
