VfL Wolfsburg

Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg have named Bruno Labbadia as their new head coach. The announcement was made by the club just 24 hours after Martin Schmidt resigned from the same position.

Labbadia has signed a contract which will keep him at the club until the end of the 2018/19 season. The 52 year old former Bundesliga star striker has the experience of coaching various clubs including Bayer 04 Leverkusen, Hamburger SV and VfB Stuttgart.

“We are delighted to have won over Bruno Labbadia for VfL. We now must all look to the future and approach the challenges ahead calmly and determinedly,” said VfL general manager Dr. Tim Schumacher in a statement on the club website.

Olaf Rebbe, Director of Sport, added: “Bruno Labbadia is a very experienced coach, who has proven his qualities in the Bundesliga on many occasions.”

“I feel, good, relaxed and I am very much looking forward to the collaboration with my new team,” stated Labbadia in a first reaction.

The new coach will conduct his first training session with the team at 16.00 CET today.
