With India hosting the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in 2020, a list of 35 probables are currently sweating it out at a coaching camp on Goa under the watchful eyes of coach Alex Ambrose. The 35 have been scouted from the Hero Junior Girls National Football Championship 2019-20, and also from State trials which are being conducted all over.

Alex, a former India International, had been stressing on the technicalities, and tactics of the game in his training sessions. “This is not a sprint but a marathon,” said Alex who led the Indian U-19s to a 1-0 win over Thailand in the AFC U-19 Championship Qualifiers in 2018.

“During the first few sessions we have tried to identify the strengths and weaknesses of each individual, and work accordingly. We have set up strength and conditioning sessions for each player, and have tweaked the diet accordingly,” he informed.

The squad has been camping in Goa since May 2.

“We are aware of the importance of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup and the gravity of India hosting it. We want to put in our best foot forward. All of the girls are eager to learn, and develop in their effort to make India proud.”
