Mohammedan Sporting Club will look for a return to form in the Calcutta Premier Division ‘A’ when they face Kalighat Milan Sangha at Mohammedan Sporting Ground on Saturday. kick-off at 3 PM.

Mohammedan SC’s last league match saw them playing out a 1-1 stalemate with Calcutta Customs, but it was a game coach Saheed Ramon thought they should have won, “It was frustrating because everyone tried their hardest. We didn’t take our chances in that game, but we can’t let that happen against Kalighat MS.”

The Black Panthers are at present in sixth position on the Calcutta Premier Division log (7 points from 5 games), three points behind log leaders Peerless SC. While Kalighat MS are languishing at the tail end of the league table, having collected 4 points with six games still to play for.

“It is still tight on the log,” said Ramon. “There’s a small margin separating the top and the bottom half. But, soon the gap will start to open up. We want to be in the leading pack before the breaking point.”

Mohammedan SC might not have got the result they wanted in their last outing, but the Nigerian mentor is confident that the Black Panthers are on the right path, however, he is aware that they won’t be helping their cause by making careless mistakes in defence or missing chances up front.

“Kalighat MS are no pushovers. They have a number of tricky guys and if you lose concentration they can hurt you. So we will be on guard to thwart any of their threats. We are under no illusion of facing a team at the bottom of the log, because this season’s league has been tight from the word go,” Ramon said. “They will come to the Mohammedan Sporting Ground knowing that a loss will draw them into a relegation battle. This will make them dangerous customers. There’s also the matter of the big occasion for their players as added spice to the contest.”

Ramon confirmed the absence of Arijit Singh and Priyant Singh due to an assortment of injuries. “We have a few injury concerns – Arijit is out with a hamstring problem while Priyant is troubled by a calf strain – but we have a quality squad available to select a winning combination from.” affirms Ramon.
