In light of the latest developments concerning the coronavirus outbreak, DFL Deutsche Fußball Liga CEO Christian Seifert has issued the following statement:

‘The coronavirus is presenting a difficult situation for society as a whole and therefore also for football.

It goes without saying that the health of the general public and thus all football fans is the top priority. With that in mind, our objective in all walks of life needs to be to find the right balance between reasonable precautions and overcaution.

The clubs of the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 will of course be working closely with the relevant authorities in their areas to determine the procedure for forthcoming matchdays.

At the same time, it is beyond debate that the season must be concluded by mid-May as planned so that we can determine which teams are promoted and relegated and which will play in international competitions. This is the only way to enable clubs and the DFL to plan for the forthcoming season with certainty despite the challenging circumstances.

The Executive Committee of the DFL will soon be discussing this issue again and will set up a meeting for the clubs.’
