In sad news for football fans in India, Germany’s Bundesliga will no longer to be aired on Star Sports across the subcontinent.

The contract between the DFL – Deutsche Fußball Liga and Star Network ended with the conclusion of the 2019/20 season and the two sides could not find common ground to renew the contract for reasons which are not in the public domain.

And this comes just weeks after Bayern Munich lifted the 2019/20 UEFA Champions League title to complete their second-ever treble of Bundesliga, DFB German Cup and UEFA Champions League.

This comes as a massive disappointment to the growing number of Bundesliga fans in India, who would have loved to see Bayern Munich battle rivals Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, Borussia Mönchengladbach, Bayer 04 Leverkusen and others for the 2020/21 Bundesliga titles.

But not all is over for worried fans then the DFL is in talks with Indian television channels and OTT platforms to try and secure the best possible broadcast deal for the Bundesliga clubs and their Indian fans before the league’s kick-off match between Bayern Munich and FC Schalke 04 on Friday, September 18.
