ATK Mohun Bagan extend Javi Hernandez contract for a season

Indian Super League champions ATK Mohun Bagan FC have announced that their Spanish midfielder Javi Hernandez has extended his contract by a year until summer 2021.

31 year old Salamanca-born Francisco Javier “Javi” Hernández González started to play at youth level for CDF Pizarrales and UD Salamanca before signing for the Real Madrid Academy.

Javi Hernandez when moved to the Real Madrid ‘B’ team but couldn’t move-up to the senior team and in the end spend time on loan for Halmstad BK in Sweden before signing for home town side UD Salamanca. Thereafter he played for CD Ourense, Burgos CF.

Javo then moved around Europe, first to Romania in 2015 to play for Poli Timisoara, then Górnik Leczna in Poland, Gabala FK in Azerbaijan, and KS Cracovia in Poland.

Javi Hernandez had come to India last season, playing 20 mtaches and he went on to win the ISL title by scoring his two only goals in the final.

Javi Hernandez said, “I am extremely delighted to stay with ATK Mohun Bagan FC. I cannot wait to meet my teammates and the new boys who have joined this season. Kolkata holds a special place in my heart. The club has given great memories and the fans have shown me so much affection. We would like to perform well in the AFC Cup while representing the Green and Maroon. Our aim is to attain glory once again this year.”
