RoundGlass Punjab FC retain experienced defender Anwar Ali

I-League side RoundGlass Punjab FC have announced that experienced centre-back Anwar Ali has been retained for the 2020/21 season.

36 year old Rurka Kalan-born Anwar Ali is a product of the Rurka Kalan Academy, who went to play for some of the biggest clubs in India, even making it to the Indian national team.

Anwar Ali is a defender recognised for his dominance in aerial battles who kicked off his senior career with Punjab Police, then switched to JCT where he made a bright start by bagging the Most Promising Player award in the Durand Cup 2006. His dominant performances in Dempo SC and Mohun Bagan got him selected into the Indian national team where he was the rock at the heart of the defence that propelled India on a winning spree in the late 2000s, even representing India at the 2011 AFC Asian Cup in Qatar.

Thereafter he became a journeyman and played for United Sikkim FC, Mumbai FC (twice), Delhi Dynamos, once more at Mohun Bagan, Mumbai City FC, East Bengal Club, ATK before returning to Mumbai City FC for a second stint in the maximum city.

In 2019, Anwar Ali joined Minerva Punjab FC and he now continues with the follow-up club of RG Punjab FC.
