The Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (Concacaf) has issued an update on the 2020 competitions following FIFA calendar decisions.
FIFA youth World Cups scheduled for 2020
The impact of COVID-19 has been significant on the football calendar. With further uncertainty regarding options for dates in 2021 and concern over international travel of minors in the current environment, it is particularly challenging to reschedule youth competitions.
Following FIFA’s communication that it has canceled the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup, originally scheduled to take place in India in 2020, Concacaf has decided that the regional qualifiers for this event will not take place.
Concacaf also notes FIFA’s decision that the 2020 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup, originally scheduled to be played this year in Costa Rica and Panama, will not go ahead. However, the Confederation welcomes FIFA’s decision to award to Costa Rica the 2022 edition of this World Cup. The Costa Rican Federation will prove an excellent host for the competition.
FIFA Club World Cup Qatar 2020
Following FIFA’s decision to reschedule the FIFA Club World Cup Qatar 2020 to February 1 to 11, 2021, Concacaf is now able to confirm that the winner of its centralized 2020 Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League (SCCL) will represent the Confederation in this prestigious international club tournament.
The final rounds of the SCCL will be played in Orlando, Florida from December 15 to 22.
