Bundesliga side DSC Arminia Bielefeld has announced the signing of Masaya Okugawa. The 24-year-old Japanese winger joins the Germans on loan from FC Red Bull Salzburg with an option to buy.
Okugawa has played a total of 47 matches for Salzburg in all competitions – the Austrian Bundesliga, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, UEFA Champions League qualifiers and Austrian Cup (ÖFB-Cup) – while scoring 14 goals and setting up eight assists. He had also a loan spell at German Bundesliga 2 side Kieler SV Holstein in the 2018/19, when he scored five goals in 19 matches.
“We have managed to sign a creative player in Masaya, who has enjoyed an excellent training in Salzburg,” said Samir Arabi, Managing Director Sports, DSC Arminia Bielefeld. “He does not only convince with his on-pitch qualities, but also with his mentality.”
Arminia Bielefeld’s head coach Uwe Neuhaus said: “Masaya is a type of player comparable to Ritsu Doan: He aims to go forward with a lot of creative ideas, not only having a focus on a finish, but also to set-up an assist. We will be able to further improve our goal threat.”
