2nd Division Women’s Bundesliga leaders FSV Gütersloh 2009 were held to a 1-1 draw by FC Carl Zeiss Jena on Saturday. The match was played behind closed doors at FSV’s Tönnies-Arena.

Both sides struggled to execute their respective game plan in a quite distracted first half. But the home side managed to break the deadlock in the 36th minute.

Demi Pagel collected a perfectly timed through ball by Marina Hermes and cut into the box to unleash a powerful shot into the back of the net.

The lead helped FSV to settle their game to a certain extent and to enjoj the majority of possession.

Gütersloh needed a second goal to seal their third consecutive win since the restart of the league after a several months long COVID-19 break.

But Gütersloh failed to do so and even gave away their lead in the 66th minute. Nelly Juckel took advantage of an error by the FSV central defence and levelled the score line.

Both sides settled for a 1-1 draw at the end, which is surely a disappointing result for Gütersloh if you consider the way they conceded the equaliser. But they remain top of the table while they travel to second placed RB Leipzig for their next league game.
