As of 1 June 2021, Markus Krösche will be the new board member at Bundesliga football club Eintracht Frankfurt. Krösche, 40, was chosen unanimously at a meeting of the supervisory board of Eintracht Frankfurt on Friday afternoon as the successor to Fredi Bobic on the Eintracht Frankfurt Fußball AG board. His contract will run through to 30 June 2025.

“Markus Krösche is an absolute expert who will be filling this incredibly important position,” said Philip Holzer, chairman of the Eintracht Frankfurt Fußball AG supervisory board. “He’s had success at all his clubs and we are sure that he will help us to drive forward Eintracht Frankfurt’s development. In our conversations with him, his ideas and his identification with our approach and our club shone through. We think that he will be a very good long-term addition to the board. Markus has acquired a great deal of experience as a player, a coach and most recently in a management role. His appointment is a big win for our club.”

“I have been keeping a very close eye on how Eintracht Frankfurt have been developing in recent years,” said Krösche. “The club has come on in leaps and bounds, and due in no small part to the emotion that it generates, it has become one of the big names in German football. I had very intensive discussions with supervisory board chairman Philip Holzer and other members of management, which convinced me, and I’m delighted that I will be part of the Eintracht family as of June. From that point onwards, I will be entirely focused on Eintracht. I want to help to write new chapters in the current success story of this famous club.”

Markus Krösche in brief

Krösche was born on 17 August 1980 in Hanover. His greatest successes as a player were as part of the Werder Bremen side which won the German U19 championship in 1999, and also helping SC Paderborn achieve promotion to Bundesliga 2 in 2005 and 2009 and to the Bundesliga in 2014, having been named captain of the club in 2008. As a coach, he first rose to prominence in the Bundesliga in the summer of 2015 as assistant to Roger Schmidt at Bayer 04 Leverkusen. After Schmidt left in March 2017, Krösche moved from Leverkusen to Paderborn to take up a position as managing director for sport. In 2017/18 and 2018/19, Paderborn gained consecutive promotions, first to Bundesliga 2 and then to the top flight. At the beginning of the 2019/20 season, Krösche moved to RB Leipzig as sporting director.
