Japan’s Homare Sawa wins the “Golden Ball”

Japanese skipper Homare Sawa has won the “Golden Ball Award” of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2011. USA’s Abby Wambach received the “Silver Ball Award”, while team mate Hope Solo finished 3rd with the “Bronze Ball Award”.

Solo was also awarded the “Golden Glove Award” for the best goalkeeping in the tournament.

Sawa finished topped of the goal scorer list with five goals and 1 assist in the tournament and was awarded the “Golden Boot Award”. She finished 1st ahead of Brazil’s Marta (4 Goals / 2 Assists) and Wambach (4 Goals / 1 Assist).

World Champions Japan was also awarded the FIFA Fair Play Trophy.

FIFA’s Technical Study Group has further elected an All-Star Team based on players’ performances throughout the tournament.
