VIDEO: 30-yard backheel own goal

How many players can claim to have scored a 30-yard goal with a backheel? I guess not a single one! Iñigo Martínez managed this rare moment in a footballers career – but his goal will be possibly remembered as the most curious own goal in football history…

Martinez and his Spanish U21 national team faced Georgia in a UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifier on September 1. The Spaniards were leading 6-0 in the 51st minute, when Martinez flicked a long ball by Georgian keeper Giorgi Makaridze backwards over the head of Manchester United’s David de Gea and into the empty Spanish goal.

The Luis Milla coached Spanish team won the away match 7-2, but the match will be remembered by football fans for the Iñigo Martínez own goal.
