India U16 camp in full swing

The India U16 national team has kicked-off its preparations for the upcoming AFC U16 Championship Qualifiers. The Indian juniors will face Kyrgyzstan in their first match on October 1.

The Indian squad under the supervision of coach Thomas Joseph had a first training session at the Conscient Football Campus, Heritage School in Gurgaon. Joseph and his assistants C.M. Ranjit and Mario stressed on fitness drills and match practice as they acclimatised themselves to the new surroundings.

Thomas Joseph was very much appreciative about the practice facilities at the campus. “The grounds are well-maintained and conducive for good football. We are impressed with the facility provided to us,” he said.

India have been drawn into a tough Group C along with Bahrain, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. The group matches will be played at the Uzbek capital of Tashkent.

“It’s a tough group. Uzbekistan are the favourites from our group. We need to play to our strength,” Joseph told.

The Indian squad will be leaving for Tashkent on September 29.
