VIDEO: Liverpool's Thompson in Mumbai for talent hunt

Former Liverpool and England central defender Phil Thompson visited Mumbai recently in his role as a brand ambassador for the EPL side. Thompson promoted a LFC-backed football program called “Go Forward”.

The idea behind “Go Forward” is to spot talent from a pool of 2,000 kids from 80 municipal schools of Mumbai (BMC). The boys will pass through three levels of coaching and training before 32 of them will receive rigorous training from I-League and Liverpool FC coaches.

“I believe there is talent in India that is waiting to be tapped into. And by this initiative, the club, which has a huge fan base in the country, is trying to provide the platform for them to come through,” Thompson told the media during his stay in India. “The programme is targeting kids aged 12-14. It reminds me of my playing days. Nowadays, European clubs tap up boys as young as six, which is a bit too much.”
