India star Sunil arrived in the Portuguese capital Lisbon yesterday evening as reported earlier [+ read more]. The new Sporting Clube de Portugal ‘B’ striker was welcomed by numerous tv crews, photographers and other media representatives at the Lisbon airport.

Sporting fans started to chant “Sporting, Sporting” at the airport terminal, when they recognised Sunil on Portuguese soil. Rival fans tuned into the chants, while singing “Benfica” chants to give Sunil a first impression about the football craziness in Lisbon.

“I am very proud. Sporting is one of the best clubs in the world and this is a big step in my career,” Sunil told to the media gathering at the airport. “I promise I’ll give everything. This is a great opportunity for me!”

Sunil spent the night at the SCP Academy and he will undergo the mandetory medical check-up today midmorning. He will be get some time to rest after the long journey in the afternoon.

The 27-year-old India star will join the Sporting Clube de Portugal ‘B’ team on Friday for a first training session. The team is scheduled to play a practise match on Saturday and Sunil could wear the famous green-and-white jersey for the very first time.
