The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has rejected claims by the All India Football Federation (AIFF) that the Africans have breached any agreement to participate in the 2012 Nehru Cup.
Kenya opted to pull out of the five-nation tournament in New Delhi at the last moment, while agreeing to play an international friendly match against Jamaica in the United States. The Kenyans were scheduled to play the Nehru Cup along with hosts India, African giants Cameroon, Syria and the Maldives.
FKF chairman Sam Nyamweya has “laughed-off media reports about India’s intention to report Kenya” to FIFA and the CAS at a press conference according to Kenyan media sources.
“It is amazing to hear that India are planning to take us to FIFA and CAS for withdrawing from the tournament,” Nyamweya told the media gathering. “First and foremost they did not comply with our requests. Secondly, by the time we got the Jamaica invitation, we had not signed the pre-tournament contract.”
“Everything is set for the Jamaica friendly,” the FKF official continued. “That’s a big match and we cannot afford to neglect it at all cost. The friendly will help us improve in the FIFA rankings.”
Meanwhile, Nepal is likely to replace Kenya at the 2012 Nehru Cup and the All-Nepal Football Association has named 29 probables for the tournament as reported earlier [+ read more].
The 2012 Nehru Cup is scheduled to kick-off on August 22.
