India to face Yemen in a friendly match

The Indian national team will take on Yemen in an international FIFA Friendly Match on November 14.

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) is planning to host the match at the Indira Gandhi Athletics Stadium in Guwahati, while Siliguri’s Kanchenjunga Stadium is unlikely to get the hosting rights due to poor ground conditions.

Wim Koevermans’ men will face a team ranked 157th in the FIFA World Rankings as part the AIFF’s plan to give the Indian team more international exposure and regular matches to improve the own FIFA Ranking.

The Yemenite team is coach by Belgian coach Tom Saintfiet and the India match will be part of their preparations for the 2012 West Asian Football Federation Championship later this year.

The last match between these two teams took place at the Balewadi Sports Complex, Pune on October 13, 2010 as part of India’s 2011 AFC Asian Cup preparations. The match ended 6-3 in favour of the West Asians with Abhishek Yadav, Irungbam Surkumar Singh and Aref Dali (own goal) on target for India.
