I-League: Twelve goals as Churchill trash Sporting

Churchill Brothers SC have won the Goan Derby in an I-League Round 11 encounter against Sporting Clube de Goa on Sunday. T. Bineesh Balan scored a hat-trick in Churchill’s 8-4 win.

T. Bineesh Balan opened the scoresheet for Churchill nine minutes into the game in front of the cheering fans at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Fatorda.

Ogba Kalu Nnanna (20′) levelled the scoreline, while Joseph Pereira even put Sporting in the lead with his goal in the 34th minute.

But Balan hit back twice (38′ & 40′) to turn the match once again into the favour of “The Red Machines”. Henry Arnaud Antchouet Rebienot increased the lead two minutes into injury time to give Churchill a comfortable 4-2 lead at half-time.

Antchouet (59′), a brace by Roberto ‘Beto’ Mendes Silva (69′ & 71′) and Akram Moghrabi (80′) made it even 8-2 for the hosts in a quite one-sided affair.

Sporting Clube de Goa reduced the margin in the final moments of the game with goals from Joseph Pereira (90’+2′) and Seiya Sugishita (90’+3′).

Churchill Brothers have taken over the lead in the I-League table from Goan rivals Dempo SC. Both sides have 25 points to their account, but Churchill top the table with the better goal difference of +14.
