Lionel Messi rejects record €250 million transfer to Russia

FC Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi has rejected a record €250m transfer to Russian Premier League club FC Anzhi Makhachkala according to Spanish newspapers “Marca” and “Mundo Deportivo”.

The Russian club was ready to pay the €250m buy-out clause and they have reportedly offered the Argentine international a three year contract which would have guaranteed him €30m a season (€90m in total).

Anzhi Makhachkala’s owner Suleyman Kerimov, a Russian billionaire, is planning to invest a lot of money into the club and he has already secured the services of renowned names like Cameroonian superstar Samuel Eto’o and Dutch coach Guus Hiddink.

The Russian club contacted Lionel Messi’s father and agent Jorge Messi earlier this month before he penned his new deal with the Catalan La Liga side. But Lionel Messi didn’t consider the move due to the missing perspectives to win major titles according to the sources.
