Churchill Brothers go down in AFC Cup opener

Churchill Brothers SC have lost their first 2013 AFC Cup Group E match against Hong Kong’s Kitchee SC at the Mongkok Stadium on Tuesday.

The I-League side conceded the first goal when Kitchee captain Chu Siu Kei put the ball past Churchill keeper Sandip Nandy with a fine header off a Yang Huang cross in the 28th minute. Spanish striker Jordi Tarrés Páramo increased the lead just three minutes later to give the home side a 2-0 lead at half-time.

“The Red Machines” looked much improved in the second half but Tarrés Páramo ended any hopes for the Goans, when he scored his second goal of the match in the 66th minute.

Churchill face Indonesia’s Semen Padang FC in their next AFC Cup match in Pune on March 12th.
