BREAKING NEWS: Bayern Munich claim historic Bundesliga title

German giants FC Bayern Munich have won the Bundesliga title with a 1-0 away win against Eintracht Frankfurt. The Bavarians set the record for the fastest-ever Bundesliga triumph in the history of the league, which celebrate its 50th anniversary this season.

Runaway leaders Bayern have secured their 23rd national title and the 22nd since the inception of the Bundesliga. Jupp Heynckes team dropped points in just four games all season, recording 24 wins from 28 matches, scoring 79 goals and conceding just 13. No other team has won the title with six matches to spare since the Bundesliga was established in 1963 and the Bavarians are chasing various other league records including the record of the most points won in a season and the best goal difference in a season.

Bayern took some time to find the back of the net against Frankfurt. But Bastian Schweinsteiger broke the deadlock with a fine backheel goal to the delight of the Bayern fans in the 52nd minute. Jupp Heynckes’ team managed to wind down the clock and to secure the needed win to secure them the Bundesliga title.

The Bayern players and officials had stated before the game at Frankfurt’s Commerzbank Arena that there will be no big celebrations with an eye on the approaching UEFA Champions League quarterfinal return leg against Juventus on Wednesday.

“We’ll hold a suitable party at a later date,” Spanish international Javi Martinez told the official Bundesliga website.

“We’ll probably have to celebrate a bit differently, rather than partying until morning, because Juventus wait for us on Wednesday,” Bayern’s Director of Sport Matthias Sammer told. “You can see the greed of this team for what they have already achieved, they want more.”
