Churchill Brothers sign high-profile Portuguese players

I-League champions Churchill Brothers SC have signed Portuguese players Hugo Miguel Alves Machado and Eurípedes Daniel Adão Amoreirinha for the new season.

“We are very happy to join the champion club of India and moreover to move to a place like Goa was a dream especially with the close ties between Goa and Portugal,” the players were quoted in an official club release.

“We have heard a lot about the club and Goa and especially about the ‘family’ that runs the club and the passion of the chairman Churchill Alemao.”

“We will do our best to help Churchill Brothers to continue to be the champion club of India and to win many more laurels not only in India but in Asia as well.”

“We thank our manager Raul Fernandes and the club for giving us this opportunity,” the duo added.

Midfielder Hugo Machado (30) is a product of the Sporting Clube de Portugal Academy, whike defender Eurípedes Amoreirinha (28) learned his football basics at city rivals Benfica.

Machado will be joining the Goan side from Iranian club Sanat Naft Abadan FC, while Amoreirinha will be leaving Portuguese Primeira Liga outfit Vitória FC.
