UEFA Women’s EURO champions Germany welcomed by thousands of fans

The German Women’s national team arrived on home soil after winning the UEFA Women’s EURO 2013 title with a 1-0 win against Norway on Sunday [+ match report].

Silva Neid and her victorious team landed in Frankfurt yesterday and they were welcomed by approximately 10,000 fans at the famous “Frankfurter Römer”, the city hall of the German city.

The team signed the visitors’ book of the City of Frankfurt before they continued to enter the balcony of the building under the celebrations of the fans waiting outside.

“The arrival in Frankfurt was brilliant, really cool,” goalkeeper Nadine Angerer told. Angerer was the big hero in the final, when she saved to penalties to secure the German team the eight UEFA Women’s EURO title.

“I haven’t really realised what we’ve achieved. There was so much energy and stress in the game. Again, it was a fantastic team performance,” she added.

“We, the whole of the DFB (German FA), are really proud of this team and the coach,” DFB President Wolfgang Niersbach told.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel also conveyed a message to the winning team: “I cordially congratulate you and the team for the eighth European championship title of the German women’s national team.”

“Your team impressively proved its international class with football of the highest level. It inspired people in our country with its passionate and battling playing style.”
