Wim Koevermans: We didn’t reward ourselves

Indian national coach Wim Koevermans said “India needed to kick it into the rival net,” in the SAFF Championship 2013 Final against Afghanistan. Koevermans was speaking at the post-match Press Conference at the Dasrath Stadium.

“We didn’t reward ourselves by not putting it into the net,” he maintained. “Football is all about scoring goals.”

“But I’m proud of the manner my boys played tonight. We were the better Team but ended up on the losing side. We just failed to convert our chances. In fact, that has stayed the story of the entire Championship,” he stated. “Except our match against Nepal we missed chances galore.”

“We had played a good semifinal and I had to stick with the same Starting XI. Sunil Chhetri came on in the second half and immediately created chances. It’s not only him, but many other players had their chances.”

“On the contrary, Afghanistan had two chances and converted both. That is football.”
