India coach Wim Koevermans visits Delhi Youth League

Indian national football team coach Wim Koevermans paid a visit to the Delhi Youth League on Sunday.

Koevermans attended the Delhi Youth League U-15 category encounter between Youth Football International (YFI) and the Bhaichung Bhutia Football Schools (BBFS) played at the British School in Delhi.

YFI won the match 5-3 and the Indian national coach  was impressed with the initiative and was pleasantly surprised to see talent of such nature at display in a city like Delhi. The 53-year-old Dutchman also made a shot visit at another venue of the league at DPS R.K. Puram.

The Delhi Youth League was started in January 2013 and it is running its second season after a successful inaugural season. The league hosts teams from different academies, NGO’s and public and private schools in various age groups from 6-19 and is held between the months of September and April. It is a non-profit initiative and has received heavy appreciation from critics, children and parents alike.

With a paucity of football activities, proper structure and lack of infrastructure as well, the league has come in as a breath of fresh air for the enthusiastic and prospective players from the city to showcase talent, learn the nitty gritties of the game and compete with the best. A lot of expats are a part of the league as well with kids from across the world playing and competing in the league.
