Guangzhou Evergrande advance to FIFA Club World Cup semis

Guangzhou Evergrande FC have won their FIFA Club World Cup Morocco 2013 quarterfinal match 2-0 against Al Ahly SC to set-up a semifinal clash against UEFA Champions League winners FC Bayern Munich.

The match hosted at the Agadir Stadium didn’t produce any goals in the first half and both sides were locked goalless at half-time. The AFC Champions League winners coached by Italian coach Marcello Lippi finally broke the deadlock in the 49th minute, when Brazilian Elkeson put the ball past Al Ahly keeper Ekramy.

Dario Conca doubled the lead for Guangzhou against the CAF Champions League winners in the 67th minute. The Egyptian side had no answer left to the Chinese dominance and they had to settle for a defeat when Brazilian referee Sandro Ricci blew the final whistle.

Guangzhou Evergrande will face German Bundesliga champions FC Bayern Munich in the first semifinal of the FIFA Club World Cup Morocco 2013 at the Agadir Stadium on Tuesday.

Tournament favourites Bayern Munich are scheduled to leave Germany on a late Saturday night flight after winning their Bundesliga match against Hamburger SV 3-1 earlier in the day.
