Bayern Munich sign Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski

Polish international Robert Lewandowski will join FC Bayern Munich from Bundesliga rivals Borussia Dortmund in the summer.

The 25 year old striker had his medicial at Bayern Munich team doctor Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt’s practice on Saturday, before he and his agents had the final talks with the club.

Lewandowski has signed a five-year contract with the reigning FIFA Club World Cup champions to join them on a free transfer. The five-year deal starting on July 1, 2014 will keep him at Bayern until June 30, 2019. The club was represented by chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and board director for sport Matthias Sammer, with the player represented by his agents Cezary Kucharski and Maik Barthel.

“We’re very pleased about completing this transfer,” commented FC Bayern Munich AG chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge in an official press release issued by the club. “Robert Lewandowski is one of the best strikers in the world. He will strengthen the Bayern squad and give us another boost. We’re delighted both parties have today signed a five-year contract until 2019.”

The new Bayern star started his career at Varsovia Warsaw, before signing his first professional contract at Delta Warsaw in 2005. He moved on to play for Legia Warsaw II, Znicz Pruszków and Lech Poznan, before he signed with Borussia Dortmund in 2010.

Lewandowski has earned 56 caps for Poland till now, while scoring 18 goals for the “Białe Orły”.
