East Bengal sign New Zealand World Cupper Leo Bertos

Kolkata giants East Bengal Club have completed the signing of New Zealand World Cupper Leonida Christos Leo Bertos as their Marquee Foreigner for the 2014-15 campaign.

Bertos signed a two-year deal with the club and his contract will start from August 1.

The former Wellington Phoenix and Perth Glory player turned out for all the three 2010 FIFA World Cup matches for New Zealand – Slovakia (1-1), Italy (1-1), and Paraguay (0-0). Incidentally New Zealand remained the only unbeaten side in 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Bertos has been capped 56 times at senior international level and will become the fourth World Cupper to play for East Bengal after Iran’s Majid Bishkar, Nigeria’s Emeka Ezeugo and South African Macdonald Mukansi.
