Former Swedish international Fredrik Ljungberg has signed a contract with the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) for its inaugural season.

The 37-year-old winger announced his retirement from professional football in 2012, but he will be coming out of retirement for the ISL.

Ljungberg started his career at Halmstads BK, before he made it to international stardom when he played for English Premiership side Arsenal FC from 1998 to 2007.

His career took him also to West Ham United, MLS outfits Seattle Sounders FC and Chicago Fire, Scottish side Celtic FC and J.League team Shimizu S-Pulse.

Ljungberg has played for Sweden at the junior and senior level, while representing the senior national team 75 time and scoring 14 goals. His international career came to an end after Sweden’s poor performance at the UEFA EURO 2008.
