Norway's Stabæk IF signs India keeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu

Indian goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu has signed a three-year contract with Norway’s Tippeligaen side Stabæk IF.

“A proud day for my country and for me as I am pleased to announce I have signed for @stabaekfc #HappyIndependenceDay,” Gurpreet announced via Twitter (@Gurpreetgk).

The 22-year-old youngster had a three-month long trial with Stabæk IF before he was offered a contract by the club. He was able to impress Stabæk IF coach Bob Bradley and his coaching staff during the trials and he will be rubbing shoulders with Ivory Coast World Cupper Sayouba Mandé and young Norwegian Borger Thomas for a spot in the starting eleven.

Gurpreet becomes the fifth Indian footballer to sign a contract with an European club after Mohammed Salim (Celtic Glasgow), Baichung Bhutia (Bury FC), Sunil Chhetri (Sporting Clube de Portugal) and Subrata Pal (FC Vestsjælland).
