20th Classic Cup 2014 underway in Kohima

The 20th Classic Cup 2014 played under the theme “touching lives, through football” started on Monday, August 18 at Local Ground in Kohima, Nagaland.

Giving his speech at the inaugural function, C. Sazo, Speaker, Nagaland Legislative Assembly congratulated the Classic Cup for continuously organizing the football tournament over the last 20 years.

The Classic Club also honoured the former champions who won the trophy from 1995 till 2013. The honoured teams were New Market (1995, 1998), Zeigiest XI (1996),Hallux Club (1997, 2001), NIIT,Kohima (1999, 2000), Naga Boys Club (2002), Puliebadze Club (2003), ARC, Shillong (2004), SAI, Dimapur (2005), Penguin XI (2006, 2007, 2008), Nagaland Police (2009, 2010), 13th Assam Rifles (2011), Life Sports FC (2012) and Kohima Komets (2013).

54 teams will vie for the 20th Classic Cup, 2014. The prize money for the Champions will be Rs. 1,50 lakh and the Runners-Up would receive Rs.70,000 with a running trophy and individual prizes.
